I would have preferred the packaging to be the same. But i think we need to all cut VEI some slack here, lets remember this was not planned to come up at this time. It was more so suppose to come around the dec/jan timeframe. VEI was able to act quickly and make this happen for us and perhaps that meant not having the time have artwork made up for individual cases and allowed them to cut time and demand by making it a simple case.

Got mine today from the EBay seller. 1 week, total. 1 week from Ontario to Florida. Not bad at all! Especially considering it just hit shelves in Canada yesterday.
Have yet to check out the episodes, but will report anything amiss or super-cool. I see what everyone means about the packaging. The box art is not bad, and is cool, but is the least of the three seasons. Season 3's box art seems to be a mix of S1 & S2.
The discs are pretty good the way they are. They shouldn't scratch, unlike the very similar box Universal Home Video put out for "Miami Vice" Seasons 3, 4 & 5, that didn't have flat disc art, and was plain, which greatly heightened the chance of disc scratching. H&McC: S3 shouldn't be too bad. But the thin-pak's are still very missed.
But the in-depth episode guide is severly missed. Haven't looked at the photo gallery, but I think that's my biggest complaint the loss of the episode guide.
But at the end of the day, we now have the entire series on DVD, which is something none of us thought possible at one time. And with all original music.

VEI really did try to get Season Three photos for the the package. Remember I posted a request for any shots of the third season Coyote? But tell me more about this paper insert. We got an advance look at what was supposed to be the inside and it had an episode guida, some trivia info, and more. Was that placed on the back instead, or is it on the "paper insert" I've read about?

Was that placed on the back instead, or is it on the "paper insert" I've read about? There's nothing, like Owlley stated. The so-called "paper insert" they speak of is the actual box art. It's similar to to a regular slim case DVD package, except thicker. It's the insert in the thin-plastic part of the case, that is the front, side & back cover art. The inside is book like, with plastic cases that you flip, with the five discs inside. Discs 2 & 3 and Discs 4 & 5 are stacked over each other, but still have their own slot, so they won't scratch. There is no episode guide, and the photo gallery is on Disc 5, and it's a nice little nugget, but it only runs barely 2 minutes, most of which are standard photos you can find off the 'net, with a couple of rarities. It's nice, and i'm glad to have it, but the biggest disappointment has to be the altered intros. The short rearrangment of "Drive", which appeared on the majority of the season is completely missing.

Sorry to say it's not going to happen, folks. The STAR group was in touch with VEI (notice the nice little bit on the inside of the box) about a blooper tape and interviews. First, we located a copy of the blooper tape, but it won't be released to the public because of some questionable content. Next, there isn't any more material available; no old interviews, no outtakes, no nothing, because the series is twenty years old. Third, VEI couldn't afford to travel to where people are (Danny Kelly, Larry Hertzog, Victoria Keith) with a crew to interview them. It's a small company and I think they had to spend some bucks on the music rights, which short-changed the packaging budget. But we've got all three seasons on DVD, that's something I never thought would happen. Thanks, VEI! I must admit to being only slightly disappointed with the set. Whilst I do acknowledge the points raised above I would personally have paid a few dollars extra to see the final set with the same packaging along with the info booklet and decent graphics.............. That said, I'm very glad to have the entire series on DVD and am grateful to VEI for making that happen but I do feel that VEI missed the chance to make us fans proud. Shame.

i ordered my set yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive. Hearing from everyone that the case is not as nice as the other 2 seasons makes me a little sad, however its better that way. it would be more disappointing if S3 would have never been released.
so lets thank the lord, that he gave us the chance to own all 3 seasons of that wonderful piece of history!!

Even though S3 is not packaged like S1 and S2 were, I'd still like to get it. It's a glass half-full--I don't care if the discs are stacked on top of each other in a package without an episode guide. It is still the last of the series, and I will have my first completed series if I get it, and that will be a big plus for my television disc collection.

The intros is a big disappointment for me, but like you said... look at the glass as 'half full'.

***NOTE FROM ADMIN*** FYI: Being that this thread is 8 pages long, Some of you may not be aware that I posted pictures of the S3 set a few messages back. This should answer any questions as to the appearance of the packaging.

I noticed those a few times before and also today-- thanks for doing that. Like I said, I'm not really worried about the packaging. This is still a golden opportunity to get my first completed television series on disc. As a matter of fact, I would like to know something about the packaging, though-- is the package for S3 as thick/thin as one of the slipcases in the first two seasons? This is asked because I would like to make sure that it fits on my television disc shelf with the first two seasons. I am a chronological (i.e. season order) arranger when it comes to television discs. I have series from 1968-71, 1977-78, and 1979-86, and they are all arranged chronologically.

You know what I don't like about the picture of Milt & Mark on the box-set? The don't interact, t hey don't connect to each other. And as far as I remember, they were really close friends at the end of S3. This picture looks like they've go nothing to say to each other. But that's just my 2 cents...

Not exactly sure what you're asking here, but DVD case is all one solid case that pops open. It's as thick as three of the thin-pak's from Seasons 1 or 2. You're right, I think that's really the problem. Despite the fact that the Season 3 cover art is underrated (it's not near as bad as it's reputed), it's still the least of the three seasons, because Mark & Milt are just too dark on the cover. They have a deadly serious look, and it seems like more of a look that would be at home with Hunter & McCall on "Hunter", rather than "H&McC". Even in the serious tone that "The Birthday Present" & "Do Not Go Gentle" took, I can't ever remember Milt & Mark being that deadly serious ever in the entire series. Even when in serious trouble, both were always sarcastic about it.
