Susan Zodin's memories:
Re. the Errol Flynn leap...I asked Danny how much input he and Brian
did on ad-libbing lines or making changes in the action to create a
better scene (since it looks like a lot of the "cute" things in the
episodes might be a spur-of-the-moment thing the guys created between
them--esp. w/them cracking up over each others quips...as well as
having differences between some of the script copies we have and the
filmed version.). He replied (surprisingly) that Brian was noted for
NOT making changes to a script and would do the acting just as it was
written. Danny said he decided on his own during filming that scene
to do the "leap" onto the back of the Coyote instead of following the
script's instructions to just walk up to the car and open the door
normally. Brian's reaction was a growled comment of something
like "Who the H*ll do you think you are, Errol Flynn?", and Danny
said the director and producers were not happy with his manuever. I
commented to him that I thought it was really "in character" for Mark
to do such a stunt...sorta like the way the old screen cowboys used
to jump dramatically on a horse...and that I like it the way it was
filmed.
Danny said the same thing to many other questions re. doing something
different in filming action shots or with his lines from the script,
or (like Liz said) wearing the Blue Jays cap w/o paying royalties (he
just didn't think about the legal issue at the time), and having the
producers, etc. get on his case. Poor guy!
Susan B and whoever else overheard the conversation, please add your
thoughts...this is the way I remember it; however, I was in a dream
state just realizing that I was talking "live" with the man after
years of viewing his performances!
