Can you narrow it down to just one? Mine varies from time to time, depending just a bit on my mood. But, nine days out of ten, it's pretty simple: The Crystal Duck. Man, I love that episode!

Just _one_? Can't do it, but maybe top three? I have to vote for "Poker Night", "Hardcastle Goes to Wash.", "HC, HC, HC & McC", and "Careerbreaker". Okay, that's four, but at least I narrowed it down a little!
Come to think of it, I really can't leave out "Something's Going on on This Train", 'cause that's the first I ever saw. And then there's . . . hmmm. This could take several years of research to determine.

Really? Well, PN would probably make my top five. Both Mr. H Goes . . . and HC3 & McC would probably make the top ten, or maybe fifteen. Maybe even Train, if only b/c Mark is so cute when he asks to be walked to the bathroom. But Careerbreaker? Really? Hm. I'll have to watch it again.

Oh, yeah, "Careerbreaker" has to be there for three reasons -- the delirium tremens scene, the Bozo the clown description of Mark, and the peanut butter cracker scene when Mark hands the judge the disconnected phone and says "Why doncha give him a call?" and Hardcastle whines "I don't know why I talk to you." And then there's McCormick's impersonation of an FAA field agent come about the transferral to microfiche of the accident report. He's such a facile liar!

I've always had a soft spot for 'The Homecoming' as this was the last time H&M was shown on TV in the London region (March 1985). It was shown at 12.30 at night and I was 14 and had to balance a black & white portable on my bed to watch it. Happy days!! ;D

So, since I'm guessing that the show wasn't running concurrently both here and there, was there actually a year's delay? Was that partial season one the only one that was ever broadcast in your area? And, more importantly, did you ever get to see all the rest?

And, more importantly, did you ever get to see all the rest? Hi Cheride. I think that the problem with Hardcastle & McCormick was that (and it pains me to say it) it was not popular enough here in the U.K to warrant the regional companies buying the following seasons. Initially H&M started here in the U.K on Sunday nights at 8.45pm back in September 1983. It was then moved to friday nights at 7.30 pm (as a replacement for The A Team, I think). The show then vanished altogether for a year then the three remaining unaired episodes (Homecoming 1&2 & Really Neat Cars) showed up on the midnight slot on sundays back in March/April 1985. Our then reginal companies were notorious for altering the scheduling of certain shows,H&M fell into that trap. However brief it's time in the U.K I fell in love with the show from Rolling Thunder onwards and never missed an episode. If I knew then what I know now I'd have recorded the lot, broken the tab on the tape and looked after them carefully. I could'nt do that at 13/14 - I did'nt have the money!!! Another theory is that back in the 80's we had a major influx of U.S shows (some teriffic, some awful) and the ITV networks kept the big hitters such as Magnum,Dynasty, A Team, Knight Rider & Dallas and decided not to renew the rest. Just a theory though! Colin

Well, thank goodness for friends, eh?
And soon, maybe we'll find a whole new generation of fans as the DVDs become available. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Hey, Shane:
Well, in terms of the DVDs, we're operating a bit on conjecture at this point, as there have been precious few details. But, it's a Canadian release, so our best bet is Amazon.ca.
As for the eps, it sounds like you've remembered two of them together. The only two-parter was The Homecoming, which ended pt. 1 with HC knocked into a reservoir, and McC frantically diving in after him time after time.
And, if I'm not mistaken, the jumping off the bridge bit is from Scared Stiff, which was also a season one ep.

Hmmm...Favorite Episode???...It's a toss-up between "Do Not Go Gentle..." and "She Ain't Deep.." In both cases we get to see the facades come down long enough for the "boys" to put their feelings into words. "Do Not Go Gentle..." actually introduced me to Barney's Beanery, a favorite eating spot on Santa Monica Blvd (here in LA)...and to Dylan Thomas, who wrote the poem, "Do Not Go Gentle..." (I was in high school when the episode aired & I got an A on my English paper, which was based on that poem - Thanks, Hardcase!) "She Ain't Deep..." has Mark saying the title of the show "Hardcastle & McCormick"...and the episode has Jonathan Banks! Seriously, though, I do like the "tracks in the sand" conversation Mark & Milt have in this one...very meaningful.

Nobody's voting for 'Chip off the Old Milt'? It has Mark threatening the repo guy. Oh, I feel a misquote coming on, but: "We don't steal from him, we don't do anything to hurt that man." And the two of them fumbling over Mark finally announcing that he's attending law school, plus the "I'm the best friend you'll ever have." "I know that." admission. And, right before the epilogue, Mark asking his law professor if he was only hired because he was an ex-con and he'd roll over if asked, and then hearing the answer, with the judge standing in the background--that was so well staged. And the two of them watching the same movie even when they're not together, and poor beleaguered Frank and his interrupted lunches. What's not to like? (Except that it's the last episode.)
