Recall with us now those thrilling days of yesteryear, when twice annually the Once and Future Pretty People would gather at Pepperdine University (a stone's throw from Gull's Way, ya know) to test their skills on athletic fields of battle. Of course, I think what these pics will mostly show is that you shouldn't take a twenty year old VHS recording, transfer it to DVD, and then expect high quality images. But, still, everyone should get a chance to share the silliness. Oh, and Owl, the Speedo really wasn't in the cards, but I posted a shot just for you, anyway! Um, really, I think this is a nice gathering of men-folk right here. If you can't make it out, there with Danny is William Shatner (otherwise known as The Man), and Ben Murphy. Cutie pies all around. And, in case you're wondering, they're playing 3 on 3 football, and DHK is diagraming the play on his stomach. Oh, and there's that medal. Well, you have to look close, but there he is, upper left corner. He did really well in this event, by the way. Oh, and just so you know, ABC did win out over CBS, but they had to go all the way to the tug of war to do it.

I visited Pepperdine one time, briefly, about ten years ago, and came away with the general impression that it was just too dang beautiful to be a school. It made me grateful that I'd pursued my education in a blizzard-blasted, nearly-treeless, upper-midwest institution of higher education--I don't think I could have gotten much accomplished if my school had been that nice.
But (lest you think this is wandering totally off-topic) I was walking past a storage area there, and someone mentioned that this was where the students kept their surfboards, which made me snicker (the way midwesterners do when they secretly feel deprived), and that long-buried kernel of resentment surfaced as a line in Resilience (I kid you not; I know how to carry a grudge).

Nice shots, Cheri; thanks! And I don't care how fuzzy the picture is -- how many people can say they've seen that Speedo at all?

Hah. Well, weren't we just discussing the benefit of trauma and mayhem for creativity? So I say just dig out a few more of those long-held grudges and entertain us some more. And, btw, since I had to go back and read Resilience again (I had to), have I ever told you how much I love the "how close did I come to losing him then?" line? Because I really do.

So that's one more thing we can cross of our Life's To Do List, eh? You know: 1) Find a life-mate. Check. 2) Pre-order Hardcastle & McCormick DVD. Check. 3) See DHK in a Speedo. Check. What's next?

Okay, we're going to have to post spit-warnings over here, too. You guys are dangerous to the ongoing health of ny nasal passages.

Spitting is okay; it's the snorting that's the killer.
