Copyright question (S1 and S2)

I've been watching my S1 and S2 DVD's, and I've been noticing something that I do not understand about the copyrights of the episodes on them. While the balance of the episodes will have a correct copyright date, a few of the episodes of early '84 or early '85 will have a 1983 or 1984 copyright date, even though they were aired on ABC in early 1984 or early 1985. Does this mean that perhaps they were made in the previous year and held over for airing until the next year? I just thought that I'd like to know.

They didn't film them and then wait to air them; that would've driven the studio and the network crazy! It probably refers to the script, which is commissioned weeks and sometimes months ahead of time.
