I just wanted to let you know that I received my S1 DVD of "Hardcastle and McCormick" from Amazon today. I also finished the "Rolling Thunder" pilot, which I thought was wonderful. Besides that, here's what else I discovered about this Canadian release (some good and some bad)-- first, the good:
--Unlike the pilot episode of "Hart to Hart" (another series that I own DVD's of), this pilot actually had a separate opening title sequence, instead of simply starting with an opening scene. "St. Elsewhere" (another series that I have the S1 DVD of) is like this too-- it also has a separate opening title sequence for its pilot.
--Secondly, I got to see the actual closing credits (a 2 min. plus segment), and I really enjoyed the format of that segment-- action, credits, action, credits, etc., all the way through to the Stephen J. Cannell logo. The music of that segment (and also that of Cannell's logo) sounded absolutely amazing.
--Finally, the menu looked absolutely most impressive, what with (on the first disc) trailers for the first two outings (including the "Rolling Thunder" pilot) playing on the left and right, as well as a "Play All" option below, and the "Hardcastle and McCormick" title and "Disc 1" above, all set against a dashboard shot of the Coyote speeding down the road (at least, that's how I remember it).
On the other hand, the bad:
--The only bad thing is that this DVD has no extras, subtitles, or even captions. I didn't mind though, because the subject matter itself (at least in the pilot) held my interest all the way through 91 or 92 minutes (I don't recall which it was).
All in all, I enjoyed the pilot, and I'm looking forward to 21 other exciting outings of "Hardcastle and McCormick."
