Seeing as we are a few weeks away from Christmas I thought I'd watch 'Love The Picture...Hate The Frame' and was wondering whether any others here would watch that ep at some point during the festive period........
Ws also wondering whether Daniel Hugh Kelly has bought (or been bought) the season sets of H&M. Hopefully he has lots of happy memories of the show - it would be great to know that he has them on DVD!!!
Our numbers are also creeping up, 74 at the last count. It's nice to see that (on the whole) this forum has many fans in my age bracket (ie 35 and up). I know that he age thing shouldn't matter but it does give me some peace - especially when other action shows such as Knight Rider & A Team have the majority of their fans as twentysomethings!!.
Should this be my last posting before christmas I would like to wish all of you a very peaceful and healthy 2007. Hopefully we will all be watching Season 3 sooner rather than later!!
Colin. xx

I will probably watch this particular episode before Christmas.
I agree, mostly, with the idea that it does make a difference when your fellow fans/board members are in the same age group. Although I'm on other boards where the ages run from 10 to 80, you can almost tell when the writer is very young rather than my contemporary.
I think this particular series appeals to all age groups and, I have to say, it has aged well. Having bought a Region 2 set of DEMPSEY & MAKEPEACE, I discovered that the series, which I loved when it first aired, didn't really age well at all. *sigh* Sometimes it's best to not revisit some old memories.
Of course, there are exceptions to that, from HARDCASTLE & McCORMICK to EMERGENCY! to THE PROFESSIONALS to ADAM-12 to I SPY.

Oddly enough, I was out Christmas shopping on Friday and the line that popped into my head while I was waiting in line to check out was....."You did get me something, didn't you?" And I could totally hear it in the voice of DHK.....yeah, I'll have to dig that one out and watch it close to Christmas. I hope we get Season 3 soon....I'd also like to get Season 3 of Emergency too....that old episode of Snakebite on DVD would totally rock!

I've made friends of all ages (from 16 to 50) in fandom, and sometimes i can't even tell the difference between the two extremes. So i don't even think about it anymore, i just classify this board is nice and calm and quiet, and others as more hectic or melodramatic... i don't like to presume about ages because i am normally wrong (and *i'm* a twenty-something). Really nice to see the member numbers are growing, although i selfishly hope the activity stays at about this level, so i can keep up! Merry Christmas to you too Colin. ;D

I was in high school. ;D

Lol. S'all about taste really isn't it, i just seem to love the older shows, with their tongue-in-cheek style and 'buddy' relationships. I like a bit of modern grit too, but the angst and depression gets to me!

Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one who watched television to get away from reality, not wallow in it. Same thing with books; I read the newspaper to find out what's going on in today's world and pick up a book to see what happened 200 years ago. (And I was born in 1950, so figure that out. Rainbow Brite, oh no. I remember Betsy Wetsy.) ;D

I agree, I watch t.v to get away as well, I don't enjoy reality t.v when everyone is facing a new drama every episode. I don't think of myself as old but I love the shows that I use to watch growing up, light and fun. I find it hard today to find good buddy shows with great chemestry between the actors.

Totally! I never could understand the interest people showed in soap operas or reality tv like Big Brother either. I had enough stress in my own life, without wanting to watch a bunch of people i don't know be nasty and complicated too! Thank goodness the 80's and 70's were a little lighter. I'm quite happy to escape from reality and immerse myself in a world where everything is alright at the end of each ep, and then all tell a crumby joke and grin at each other. (oh, except for cliffhangers, but that's okay, everyone needs a little suspense every now and then!)

I have to agree, I watch tv to get away from the stresses of the day. To enjoy an interesting story with interesting characters. I hate reality tv and game shows and soaps, except Coronation Street (a british soap). I like shows with some drama, some humour and great interaction between characters. That's why shows like hardcastle and McCormick were so good. It was simple good entertainment.

Frankly, it's one of the reasons that I love NCIS so much (yes, I'm mentioning it again). It's a buddy show with more buddies than normal. These people are a large dysfunctional family, who tease and snipe and care for each other.
I used to like LAS VEGAS as well, but they've messed it up. Only the male leads still have that friendship thing still going on. The women have become estranged due to plain silliness.
I find myself dipping back into the older series where friends could be friends and really care for each other.
I do watch two reality series (SURVIVOR and AMAZING RACE), but overall they are just as sex and violence orientated as the dramas and comedies. I actually watch these two for the locations. I'm a travel nut.

I agree about NCIS being a buddy show. I love it for that reason. The older shows have the overall buddy theme more often and SJC's shows are well know for it. I guess that is why I like them so much and why I keep going back to them.

"NCIS" may be a buddy show, but it's far from Bellisario's other 'buddy' shows in my opinion. The 'buddy' cast on "NCIS" is not even in the same league as Magnum, Higgins, T.C. & Rick on "Magnum, p.i.", String & Dom on "Airwolf", Sam & Al on "Quantum Leap", or even Rabb, Mac, Bud, Harriet, & The Admiral on "J.A.G." which was somewhat less itself.
I love Mark Harmon & David McCallum as actors, but there are so many things wrong with "N.C.I.S." imo.
As for the original topic at hand, "Hate The Picture... Love The Frame" for many years was the only post-Season 1 episode I had on tape, so because it was the only one I had, and it was a Christmas episode, I decided to watch it seasonaly every year for over ten years, it became a tradition in my house. Not only is it a great episode, but it was wonderful this Christmas, that for the first time ever, we got to watch it in crystal clear DVD quality. Thank YOU VEI!!!
What was up with "H&McC" in Season 2 with the holidays? They also had a Halloween episode earlierer in the season with "Never My Love".
