I don't know if anyone is up on this, but I had to ask. I read that in 2002 D!ck Clark bought the estate for $15 million. Does anyone know if he still owns it? Here's the link to the article I read: www.malibucomplete.com/mc_moviestv.php

Apparently, he still owns it and has -- warning! Depressing and upsetting news ahead -- filled in the pool. Yes, it's true; no one knows why.
There's also a problem along most of the beach in that area. A real stinker of a problem, caused by effluvia from sewers and general rank trash ending up on the sand and in the water. All the lines from the canyons leading down to the Malibu beach (which I understand does include Paradise Cove of which you all wot) feed right onto the coastline and it's becoming a health hazard as well as a nuisance.
We're still hoping to get everyone together to check it all out in person in a year or two; bring shovels so we can excavate the pool!

*sniff* I don't think I can handle this. Well, I'll just hold out that once they fix all those problems, they'll put in a new pool, maybe to one side.

So the property prices are falling, if the area is getting less nice to life in, right? Maybe I'll be able to afford GW one day after all. Probably a week before an earthquake sends it down into the ocean. Still, GW must be one of the most fascinating estates in that area!

Quite some time ago, I think I heard there was a plan to subdivide it, too; you know, cut off the empty parcel to the south and east along the original PCH. Don't know if that happened yet, but we're still hoping to get permission for a group of us to go on the grounds in 2008 when the Cannell Convention happens. Dick Clark seems like an okay guy, and we'll faithfully promise to behave -- no beer cans in the fountain, no underwear strewn over the azaleas.

Oh, man, that's great! It censors a guy's first name, but lets me mention underwear draped over bushes -- that's terrific!

Hey, can anyone fill me in on the Cannell Convention? It's a long way to California from here...

Well, if it's going to happen, it looks like it'll be in the summer or fall of 2008. There's a person organizing it (she's gotten approval from Cannell to hold it and name it after him), but she's horrifically busy right now. We're waiting to hear more from her when the work load lightens, and we'll certainly keep everyone informed!

Is there an "official" thread concering the convention anywhere in the forum? If not, maybe we should start one. It'd be really tempting to come to the USA and maybe even get a tour of Gull's Way... Although I think I like it more from the outside than from the inside. Hardcastle's study looks anything but cool. That brown wall-panelling looks like plastic... Edit: When you look at the Gulls Way on Google Earth, you won't see a pool anywhere, so I'm afraid it is really gone! Bad move, considering that the quality of the sea water is getting worse...

Iy you follow this link, you'll see a screenshot from Google Earth. Is the indicated area, where the pool should have been? www.flickr.com/photos/8080172@N05/482851967/Please copy & paste the link to the location bar, the "@" messes up the hyperlink somehow...

It's certainly in the right area, but I think the pool itself was just a tad closer to the house. There've been a lot of changes in the terrain of the estate, and I'm thinking maybe they bulldozed out that area to make it level and accesible from the house, instead of being just a rocky hillside. Anybody else got better eyes?
