Got to mention the boys from King Harbor! Cody, Nick, and Murray ("Boz") were "boss" on Tuesday nights.

Riptide is my favorite show of all-time and Hardcastle & McCormick is right behind it. Anyway, I purchased the first set of H&M and was wondering about Riptide so I emailed Stephen Cannell and VEI about releasing Riptide. THis is the reply I got from Mr. Cannell: "Hi Joe, Thank you for your support. There are no IMMEDIATE plans to release Riptide on DVD. However, things may change in the near future. Keep an eye at my website www.cannell.comfor changes and updates with this information. SJC" I thought that sounded okay. Kinda like they have plans but just not IMMEDIATE plans. So I Emailed VEI and this is their reply: "Hello Joe, Yes, VEI will be releasing Riptide soon. Details of the release is yet to be announced. Thank you for your interest on our products and we look forward to releasing more of your favourites titles on DVD! Take care... Tony" So any fan of Riptide should hopefully soon be happy. Cool!

Yeah I never got to watch this show originally. I look foward to picking up the Season 1 set. I hear along with "H&McC" it's another of Cannell's long-forgotton gems in a sea of "A-Team", "Rockford Files", and "Hunter".

sony will be releasing the Season 1 set before VEI does. S1 set will be out in september in Region 1. but with aslong as it takes them to release follow up sets they all will probably be released by VEI by the time sony announces s2 of riptide. heh
I will pick up the sony set in september unless VEI has extras they wont have. but will get vei sets for s2 and s3 cuz i am not waiting for sony.

I enjoyed season one as well, can't wait for the rest. Seeing the guest stars is a kick, lots of fun. I must look for Simon and Simon, I used to love that one too.

No its a region one - I shall be indulging with Amazon USA. Doubt that'll it come out over here (UK) as our TV stations couldn't be bothered to even show all the episodes - and cut the ones they did show!

That sucks, I know Canadian Stations don't always carry the same shows as the US stations and they cut them too. Finally getting season two Dr. Who though. The first bit was lost because of football. I love my Jonathan Creek and Robin of Sherwood though.

I noticed that Hardcastle & McCormick was advertised as being region 1. However Season 1 of H&M says "0" (All Regions), and Season 2 plainly states "ALL". Hunter and The Greatest American Hero are released by Anchor Bay and are Region 1. Maybe we can assume VEI's releases (such as Riptide) will be region-free, and Anchor Bay's will be Region 1? Sidenote: I use AnyDVD www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html along with my DVD copying software to convert a region 2 DVD to Region 1. It was the only way I could get a copy of "Castaway Cowboy".

Too bad they don't release it all in multi regional format, can't be that expensive for them. A question, "Castaway Cowboy" don't recall that one!!

I've just tried them out on my PC which only has software to play for region 2 DVD's, and Hardcastle plays on it. Excellent!

Too bad they don't release it all in multi regional format, can't be that expensive for them. Oh, my guess is it isn't a matter of production expense, but the expense of loss of revenue. Different regions allows the studios to have more control over marketing/promotion, pricing, timing, etc. If everything were released in a universal format, it would be far too easy for resellers from one area to flood the market in another. I would also guess that sometimes the different regions get slightly different versions contextually speaking, as well, to keep everything on the up and up with local ordinances.
