The Mantacars site has listed two actual surviving S1 Cody Coyotes. (My observation only) There were two "beauty cars" built for the first season.
The "Rolling Thunder" car #1 (Mine) I call it the "low rider" with closed canopy and tan interior. (Confirmed by Unique Cars)
The "High Rider" used in the remaining first season. (Confirmed by Barris on the Manta site)
Anyone with the DVD can notice both cars featured in episode 3 "The Crystal Duck"
The "High Rider" looks to be the FIRST featured with the narrower roof and higher stance for better access.
The "low rider" was deemed to hard to get in and out of and a replacement beauty car needed to be built during filming to convert the "Rolling Thunder" car's roof and replace the tan interior to black.
By the time the "low rider" was completed, the "high rider" was doing most of the primary filming and may have been used for backup in case of damage during production.
Since production was on a set schedule, it would be too hard to take the only beauty car and convert it in the middle of filming.
These are just my observations! Check out the episode and see if anyone agrees with me.

It is funny that you bring up episode 3 as I just watched it this past weekend. I noticed that both were used in that episode when I watched it this time. It seems by episode 9 they had gone full time to the high rider version. Another obvious item I have noticed is that the car used in the chase scenes has different rims that the beauty car. The stunt car on the other hand is so obvious, I believe anyone could pick that out during the stunt sequences/jumps.
Kudos to you on your collection Dave . That is something to be very proud of. I have been in search of a Manta Montage for about a year for a restoration project and to build a tribute car to the show. Hopefully something will turn up on Ebay soon.

Thanks for the compliment!
Best of luck on your search for a car to create a tribute! Maybe your good fortunes ahead will let you go after the M6GT kit and you can have the "baddest" Coyote on the planet! 500 horsepower/6 spd/big brakes! Look out! Here comes Coyotefan! A real Coyote Race Car just as portrayed in the show.

Yes there were. Unique Cars bought two Deloreans for conversion. Actually have seen the pictures on the build. One is owned by an aquaintance in Eastern Iowa (the limo guy) and the other may still be owned by the studio. Don't know where that one is. There is one pictured on the Code 1 site under the "sightings" tab.

You know. Now that they have come back, I really have a desire to save up to buy one.
I would love to see this puppy in my garage and show off to the town.

I wonder which S2 coyote i saw at MGM back in 1991, i thought it was the one thats owned by the guy in iowa but it could be the other... I really wish i could find the old photo album/cards i had (back to the future and car cards) in that photo album there are 3 pics of the Delorean Coyote i took while at MGM, we actually went back to the lot where it was on foot after the train tour was over, got the pics, and then security saw us and said we had to get out of the area, lol
the stunt car S2 coyote is very easy to pickout as well, especially in the episode "outlaw champion" where the car comes alongside EJ in the white olds omega, you can clearly see the dash (or lack thereof) and the spot welds around where the "door" is, actually there appears to be no door but they did make spot welds shaping out where it would be

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hi, i ended up buying the coyote skid car on ebay. as i understand it, the car has had a pretty busy past. i'm looking for members of this board to help fill in any details, or help document the car's history.
what the car is: vw pancake motor, runs strong. it is an extremely crude welded tube chassis. only partial floorboards and surrounds are inside the car. there are weight plates , or skid plates welded on near the front suspension (i guess for weight distribution on the small jumps). four control pedals (yes, four). clutch, gas, and left brake pedal and right brake pedal (still not sure what that's all about). also a "brodie brake" hydraulic handle which works the rear brakes only to assists in skidding the car around as seen in many episodes. original stunt type coyote wheels and even the rubber. quad bilstein shocks in the rear. the car weighs almost nothing. the car has been sitting in las vegas derelict.......for years. but before that...................
as i understand (please correct me), mike fennel had something to do in creating the coyote x. originally based on a manta montage. this car was used for skids, burnouts, broadie turns, small jumps and chase. there is also the beauty car(s), and a jump car (with different suspension etc). this one sits low, just like the picture car........so it would seem this is the car you see doing many of the spinouts etc with the low suspension height. if you look at the big jump shots and some stunts, you can see the different ride heights of the two stunt cars. i don't know if this car was used in one season, or all seasons, after the delorean based model came out.
after the show, the car was re-configured as the stunt car for the tv pilot knight rider 2000. this replacement for kitt was called the kift 4000. because of scheduling and delays with the cars for the pilot (the picture car kept sinking etc), this car sat on the sidelines during filming. and the revised tv show was not picked up by the networks. i'm assuming that jay ohrberg prepped the body for that show........but i'm not sure.
after only shooting the pilot, the car went to jay ohrberg's shop in so. cal. the car went topless and the pontiac banshee-esque nose was redone, and a huge tazmanian devil was bolted on the rear end above the motor. this was jay's show car called "taz-mobile". a picture can be seen on jay's web site.
i understand that the car may have been on display at disney in orlando.......but i have no pictures to prove that. how the car ended up in las vegas is beyond me.
i'm in the process of restoring the car here in long beach, california. any info. corrections, documentation, picutres on set or leads about the car would be greatly appreciated. i'm hoping to have the car at barrett-jackson jan 2010 for the public to enjoy. thanks for checking this out. tomo
