Come on Season 3!!! The Final Season!!!
Some great episodes in the final season, "She May Not Be Deep, But She Sure Is Fast", "Faster Hearts" (a throwback episode to Season 1), the intense "Yankee Clipper", the suspensful "Something's Going On, On This Train", one of the best episodes ever in "Do Not Go Gently" (in alot of ways this could've been the series finale), the hilarious "When I Look Back On All The Things", Mark's feeling that Milt was the father he was meant to have in "McCormick's Bar & Grill", the bizarre but funny "In The Eye of the Beholder", and the touching series finale, "A Chip Off The 'Ol Milt".
Come on Season 3!!!

Hello fellow H&M fanatics.I want to start out by saying it is an honor to post my first message on this sight.Like most of you guys i've been a huge fan since H&M first aired 23 years ago. (has it really been that long?).I finished season 1 last week and let me tell you it brought tears to my eyes.It took me back to the days when i used to plop down in front of the tv and i would completely lose myself in the wonderful world of H&M.What great times we had. Okay enough mushy stuff. My question is for those that already have season 2.Did they include the original theme music from the original broadcasts or were replaced by the usual drive theme song?Reason i ask is that if you remember there were 2 different versions of drive. One was the longer version and the other was a bit shorter.I know it's nitpicking but when you're a H&M nut like i am you want it to be just like you remembered it. anyway sorry about rambling on like this. Thanks for your time and i'll look forward to talking with you again.
Long live H&M

Welcome aboard! Great to have you with us.
As far as season 2 goes, the "new" theme, "Back to Back" has two versions: The Joey Scarbury version, and a second country-hillbilly sounding version. "Drive" is thrown in the mix on a few episodes, but I believe it's the shorter version. Don't quote me on that though.

This is how I remember it.
Season 1 contained was all "Drive". There was a long version & a short version. Typically the long-version started with the 'Milton C. Hardcastle is a retired judge...' intro, and the short-version usually started with the Coyote's tachometer spiking.
Season 2 was half & half. The first-half contained "Back To Back", and the second half contained "Drive" again. There were two versions of "Back To Back" (at least according to the DVD's). There was the primary Joey Scarbury-sung version, and then there was an alternate that was not sung by Scarbury, and was instrumentally different with a more country-fried sound (this version is not anywhere as close to Scarbury's, but not near as bad as reputed to be). This one showed up every so often in that first-half. "Drive" returned midway in the season, and if I remember correctly is was a newly re-arranged "Drive" that was another 'short' version, but different. In Season 1, the short-version of "Drive" that appeared still kicked off with the Coyote's engine rev, and continued on, it just edited out the "Slow motion man..." & "Time will tell..." bits. This new short cut that showed up in late-Season 2, now was the same song instrumentally (unlike "BTB") but was redone vocally by David Morgan, with certain aspects being replaced. The song now opened with a synth beat, and the lyric, "you're on a hard road, nobody cares" part, 'cares' seems to be extended and sung harder. This short version still excludes the "Slow motion man..." part, but includes an extra beat in the middle, and the lyric "Livin' to Drive!", it then continues on with a now added "Time will tell" part. Then immediately after "Time will tell", it immediately ends with the finish, and no more lyrics. Plus, the lyric "if you wanna survive" was now changed to "if you're gonna survive".
If I remember correctly, Season 3 contiued primarily with this new short-version of "Drive", but sometimes alternated back to the Scarbury-sung "Back To Back" & the long-version of "Drive" that included the engine rev, but no "Time will tell..." part.
I think the pilot movie, "Rolling Thunder" was the only time the entire full version of "Drive" was ever played in the series, and it was during Mark's evasion at the end of the movie from the Nevada State Police.
Whew!
Sincerly,

Whew, is right! Thanks for doing all that research and reporting. Now, let's re-open the debate over "hot-wired heart" vs. "high-flyin' heart". . . I know, I know, but "hot-wired" just makes more sense to me!

Well, after carefully listening to the verse through my headphones, and they're pretty crisp. It is definitely "hot-wired" heart. He say haawwwt, but you barely hear the "t", however when he sings wired, again it's like wi---ired, and there definitely a slur at the end when he sings it. you can hear the 'rred" part of the verse, not "ing"
My vote is hot-wired.

Thanks for clearing that up yankeeclipper. That's what i call thoroughness.I had to read your post couple times to really let it sink in as it's been over 20 years but i think i got the gist of it. and to add more to the confusion if i'm not mistaken in the 3rd season when ABC reran the episodes in the summer they only played the original "Drive".i never understood the reasoning behind that.Let's just pray that vei doesn't screw it up and not include the original versions. Love to read more comments on this. Thanks again yankeeclipper.

Well see, that's the problem. Unlike some new DVD sets that replace the original music with newly recorded stuff, the country version of "Back To Back" sounds like it was recorded in the 80's for the series. Almost like a long lost alternate on a certain set of masters. The masters, apparently, VEI got.
